EvergreenĀ
One of the qualities of a great evergreen tree is that in the seasons of cold and wind and snow, the evergreen stays green. The tree, despite the frigid temperatures, continues to function even when all the other trees have given up their leaves. An evergreen tree reminds me that it is designed to withstand all four seasons. One of the trees outside my house is a white pine. It has a very circuitous trunk and bow branches, but one thing is for certain: when the nor’easters come, and the hurricanes drive in and the droughts drive on, this evergreen white pine seems to be able to withstand whatever nature is looking to dish out. This evergreen tree in front of my house stays green even in January and February. Some of its needles do go brown, but they come back in the next season with a vengeance. I feel that this tree is a reminder to stay sustainable in every season, not allowing the season to dictate an outcome. People by design are evergreens. They are designed for all four seasons. The seasons may impact the dexterity, but they still withstand the resistance that comes with each season. So when I look out on this evergreen in front of my house, it reminds me that I too am able to stand in every season. So if you celebrate Christmas with an evergreen tree, just remember that tree should remind you it’s not something you bring into your house, it’s something that is within your house that keeps strong no matter what.

The definition of evergreen from Merriam-Webster is a plant having foliage that remains green and functional through more than one growing season. Typically, an evergreen is a tree that has pine needles and is able to withstand all four seasons, spring, summer, winter and fall. When the word evergreen is used in this context, it means sustainable through various trends and seasons.
